First Baptist's Ministry Team
At First Baptist all members are ministers. God has blessed our church with strong leaders in many areas. A number of our teachers are specialists in their fields which include preschool and children's ministries, youth and adult ministries, and missions' education. Excellence in ministry is important to us. Our goal is to develop a healthy and mature family of faith whose members are loving, generous, and cooperative. We take seriously the belief that God has called each of us to minister in His name.
Mason F. Smith is First Baptist's Senior Pastor. A native of Whiteville, North Carolina, Mason earned his Master of Divinity from Duke University School, and a B.A. in Religion and Christian Ministries, with a minor in Theater Arts, from Campbell University. He enjoys camping, jogging , story telling, and spending time with his wife Kim, sons, Wilson, and Wesley and their dog Rahab.
Steven W. Goatley serves as our Minister to Youth. He is a U.S. Navy veteran who traveled here originally from Kansas. Steve took an early retirement from federal civil service to start his own cabinet shop and has lived in Elizabeth City for 20 years. He enjoys Fishing, singing and playing the guitar with the praise band, and spending time with his wife Wendy, two daughters Alison and Molly, son Marshall, and two dogs Abby and Maggie.
William "Billy" Caudle is our Choir Director/Organist. Billy has extensive training in music with a style second to none. He has been minister of music in Churches throughout North Carolina and Virginia. Billy has a degree from the University on North Carolina, Greensboro. Billy lives on a boat with K.P., his cat.
